In Depth Myspace Selections: Songs
My first article is going to be about song selecting, as it sets the mood for your Myspace page in the beginning. Traffic and general internet lag can slow down loading of other parts of your page, so people often will listen to your song playing before they can load other sections of your page. This isn't always the situation, but it does occur.
Now this write up will assume that you already know beginnings about putting music into your Myspace page, setting it to start automatically or not, and how to add one into your site when you find it. If you don't know how to do this, there are some absolutely easy to follow instructions on Myspace itself, or you can do an internet search through a search engine for more.
To start, Myspace has an wonderfully big choice of songs. There's new artists that aren't even signed to the more popular bands around. Which you decide on all matters on your personality type and emotions at the time. It also depends on how often you are able to check to your Myspace page.
Before you decide on any music, think about some things. Are you the sort of person who will be looking at your Myspace daily, or even every other day? Or are you possibly going to forget it for the usually, and check it every so often or when you decide on it randomly? It may not seem like a lot, but you can situationalize your music choices on Myspace with these thoughts.
If you look at it a lot, I would suggest switching your music every few days or so, and based on your emotions of the time you change it. This is like a 'mini blog' set up. It sets your ambience for those who will be looking at your Myspace page. Are you feeling a tad upset? Find a sad song that you think fits. Feeling magnificently wonderful? Find some happy music that you really like! Music to fit your emotions of the day, and to continue on for awhile, will mean a lot more to people looking at your Myspace page than just a general song that you liked at the time and keep up always. It'll bring more comments and amusement, which is one thing we all like to see! Especially from your friends, who are usually what your Myspace friend's section is filled mostly with.
If you don't look at your Myspace page a lot, I would suggest a different path. This one isn't any less than the above, but it likely won't bring as much attention. The perfect situation would be to switch your music every week or week and a half. You can keep just enough interest from it to draw people's attraction. If you manage to do it around the same day, weekends for example, then you will probably get people looking forward to it, and watching out your page during these times. It's not ideal to choose music dealing with your emotions at the moment, though. You don't really want people bothering you a week later about why you decided on a sad song for your Myspace page, do you? You probably will have managed to be in a better mood by then! It's easier, in this placement, to pick music that deals with a generic part of your personality that you are in touch with, or a bigger goal that you have accomplished. Did you just get an B+ on a midterm? Pick music that shows your happy about it!
Now to actually picking music..
This is a bit harder, but it has numerous solutions. The start, and easiest, is that you may already have music you already think is ideal for your Myspace page. That's good! Just look up the band or artist on Myspace and see if the music is there. If it is, put it on if you can. If it's not, then just start back at the beginning. I assure you all that there are tons of songs on Myspace that will fit whatever you want to pick.
The second, and relatively simple, way to decide is to take some time before to listen to music. You can hear songs that you already have(CDs, iTunes, Rhapsody, or the numerous other already set up music programs). You can find some generic internet radio sites(Yahoo! Music - Launchcast, Musicmatch Jukebox, and I'm sure plenty of others but I use those two for the majority). Or you can look up the websites of the local radio stations that you hear often, and see if they have internet streaming. A lot of radio sites do have this now, and it's as easy as clicking a link on their website to start it and play. This works better on a faster internet set up(DSL, Cable, etc), and it still might be a bit laggy at times.
The third way, and my personal choice, is to do a general music look up through Myspace. You can search by categories very simply, and it'll give you a big list of Myspace artist pages that match your inpu. This is great because you can find up and coming bands that you may not have heard of. They have some good songs a lot of times, too. Not only can you get music to fit your Myspace page, you can also help a starting up band/artists music, and put something not often listened to on your page. This is likely to bring a decent amount of attention to your Myspace page, when your friends want to listen that song again or just telling their friends about it. The unfortuate part to this selection is that it can be very time consuming. The final product of it is the best, though, in my opinion.
To summarize, with the proper music on your Myspace page, you can make it much more amusing and interesting to anyone who might see it. It sets the tone and gives people some information about how you might be feeling emotionally. It can attract attention to your page more often, and then bring word-of-mouth interest, also.
I hope you liked my indepth Myspace music selecting article!
