I won't bore you with my long winded story on how I got into real estate- but I think it is important to understand why I did. Looking around at the people I work with everyday (including my parents and friends) - it became obvious that merely working hard did not equate to being happy, wealthy or successful. It is not my intention to describe what wealthy or success is, as everyone will have a different definition.
I wanted to have the free time and money to do the things I love, without worrying weather or not I could afford it. Real Estate was my choice- and I have never once looked back. Lifestyle is what really matters to me- if making money was the only thing that mattered, then I might end up a pretty lonely person.
Okay- so you know what I was after, and why a regular job was probably not going to provide that. That is where real estate came in. It seemed like the successful individuals I studied had made it big in one way or anther using real estate.
Before you start out in real estate, I believe it is crucial to sit down and write out what you expect from it. If you don't know what you want- how will you know if you're moving towards it? If money is your only motivator- then every time some other money making opportunity comes up that is easier or the flavor of the week- you'll jump at it. But, if you have a vision as to where you want to be in life- you will not be swayed by fast talking salesman that lure you in with big promises.
I feel like a broken record writing this, - but as I look back on my own success and why I have been able to double my net worth year over year (4 years) it is due to my focus and dedication to one thing- real estate. Not saying I don't get the itch every once and awhile to try something else, hell I live in the booming oil capital of North America. My friends are cashing stock options like lotto tickets and everyone has a new idea on how to start a business, because it will bring fame.
To deal with those immediate emotions of greed and lust, I always sleep on it- over time the hype dies down. By taking a step back to analyze these opportunities in relation to what I want in life, I can say one way or anther if this 'new' fad will really get me closer to where I want. To date I have yet to see an opportunity pass me by that I wish I had jumped on- in fact most of the people around me wished they had followed my advice.
So far every year I have exceeded my goals and it is not I set small ones so they are easy to achieve. My goals are realistic, but challenging- or I'd lose my drive.
I wrote that so called forward to give you an idea of why I use real estate to achieve what I want- because I know what I want. Once you decide what you want- you will know whether or not real estate is for you. I will assume you believe that real estate may be the answer you are looking for- so I will show you exactly how I started and what has made me successful to date.
